Evian Babies As Art

I am willing to bet that many of you have already seen at least one of the Evian Babies commercials, where babies are posed by their parents in a green screen room, filmed, and their bodies are manipulated with simulations to dance and rollerskate into complicated configurations while still approximating the typical awkward movements of babies.

If you missed the commercials (which I believe came out around 2009 or slightly earlier), here’s a link to the international version to a Rapper’s Delight.

Are commercials art? In my book, they can be. You may have seen whole shows based around selection of the best commercials of the year. As companies sink more money into advertising, they have been forced to use technology, innovation, and imagination to capture the attention of their viewers. And if you haven’t noticed, viewer’s standards are growing.

My check list:
1. Engaging
2. Contains an emotional message
3. Entertaining
4. Provocative and thought-provoking
5. Creative
6. Expressive of the artist/designer

Here’s a video for the making of the Evian’s Baby commercial. After you watch this brief look behind the scenes of the commercial, you be the judge of whether that was art.

Seattle World Eats Upcoming Schedule

Do you live in Seattle?

Do you like world cuisine? How about world dance?

I created #SeattleWorldEats for Twtvite.com, so locals could find out where I'm dancing, producing world dance shows hosted in restaurants serving exotic food, or catching Hips For Hire branded events around town featuring the world cuisine.

October 24, 2010 A Spooky Belly Dance Show with Pearls of the East at Kalia Indian Cuisine of Greenwood. This is our LAST show of the calendar year, so we tend to pull out all the stops for you. $10 cover fee for this 1hr15min show, plus a cash prize for best Halloween costume. Note: this is our one show that is not considered "family friendly" due to the nature of the music and scary costumes.

October 28, 2010 Magic Carpet Ride For the Cure at PNK Ultra Lounge (Pacific Place Mall, 4th Floor), Seattle, WA. Reza Malayeri and Imei Hsu team up with PNK and Susan G. Komen for an evening of affordable home decor and a raffle, bellydance, and a donated performance from iPad DJ Rana June Sobhany of NYC. Go to our Facebook page, "Magic Carpet Ride" to RSVP, and Eventbrite to register for the raffle drawing.
