Jump For Joy
TweetI’m back to bringing you a featured video per day (or so!) of performance art. Did you miss me after a my pitch for a local Seattle event I was co-hosting at Japonessa Sushi Cocina in Seattle?
Perhaps one of the most joyful elements of dance is jumping. In my own practice sessions, I include leaps and jumps to tone and strengthen my legs, and in Bollywood class, we have movement that allows us to dig, jump, reach, and fall in ways that make me feel like a nimble animal.
Rarely do I see videos that bring me so quickly to tears of joy. A hat tip from my cousin Jackie brought my attention to this Internet sensation, Firecrackers. You must watch the progressive build-up of this jump roping team to appreciate why the Army, Navy, and Marines in the stadium are on their feet by the end. They aren’t being polite because these are nice girls performing a show. They are giving props and respect to these girls who dance and jump their heart off from start to finish with near-flawless precision and a high entertainment factor.
I absolutely loved how the whole performance pulled the room together into a community with one sole purpose: to say, “We are with you.”
To all the artists who are tuning into my blog, looking for inspiration, and sometimes wondering if it’s worth pressing on: keep on “keeping on”. Keep doing your craft. Keep working on your art. Keep sharing what you do. The world needs you.
Don’t forget, if you haven’t done so already, subscribe to my blog by entering your email in the far right box near the top of the page. If you do so before Sept. 30, 2010, you’ll be entered in a random drawing to win an Apple iPod Touch 8G if you are a qualified artist (check out my blogpost on rules to qualify).
