Talent Contest Entertainment

When I used to hear the words, “talent show,” I used to think that was synonymous for a bunch of parents forcing kids with little or no talent to come forward, fill up an hour program, and prove how talent shows were shows with just the opposite of talent.

The Internet changed that. While it is still true that platforms like Youtube.com will be filled with millions of mediocre attempts at talent, we still have the ability to ignore what we find to be mediocre, and “like” what we believe is exceptional.

Check out this video from 2007, featuring a kid who puts “talent” into a real talent contest.

No wonder the world is in love with talent shows on TV today. Youtube and other platforms are being gleaned for the best, making cattle-call auditions less and less interesting (except for the exceptionally bad auditions, or the “hard call” rejections of someone’s talent still in a raw state of development).

What do you think? Should there be talent shows based solely on a Youtube.com style selection process (i.e. make a video submission and get votes)? What do you think will happen to in-person auditions? Will it be the final part of a three-part process to introducing the next wave of talent to the world?
