Wrist Warmers for Musicians
TweetI’m not much of a clothes horse, but when I see something that looks good and performs well, I like sharing it with others. After participating in a bellydance workshop with international choreographer and performer Nath Keo, I asked him to tell me about the wool wrist warmers he was wearing that day. Not only are they great for dance to help highlight the wrist movements he accentuated in his style, they looked flexible and insulated enough to help writers and musicians, who need to have warm fingers when practicing their craft.
Pictured here are multi-colored wrist warmers, with wool on the outside and a soft micro fiber liner on the inside (I’m allergic to wool, so the liner makes it possible for me to wear them without a reaction). I also bought a pair of hot red ones, to which one dancer said, “Those are super meow meow!”
Arwen Apparel in Canada was where I purchased two sets of wrist warmers. They make great belly dance and gypsy costuming that’s comfortable, stylish, and functional for modern and folkloric dance of all kinds.
I also bought black pants that you can tie up at the knee or wear down to the floor. Made of recycled sea shells (yes, that’s right!), they stand up wash after wash (and in the dryer!), and look brand new even after three years. You’ll buy three or four pairs of cotton dance pants, and they won’t look as good as these after that much use. Plus, I wear them as going-out pants with a short tunic top and a belly chain on the outside. Stylish! I didn’t see them on the current website, but I have another pair to sell, Size Small for a male or, 5’5 – 5’7, with enough stretch if you have curves, but fitted if you are a lean and muscular. Shown here, size XS for 5’2 to 5’4, roll down waist. $65 USD (to pay Arwen’s back for having sent me two pairs in different sizes, thank you!).
If you get a set of wrist warmers, show them off in a picture, and I’ll post it here. Please share my blog with friends, and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @hipsforhire.
