Instagram Photo Art Project At The ArtWalk
TweetWhen my neighbors in the Old Rainier Brewery building asked what I would like to share as a participant of our art walk, it wasn’t exactly a no-brainer. Yes, I’m a musician. Yes, I am a dancer. Yes, I make collage art, albeit at a painfully slow pace. Yes, I write, Yes, I love to write poetry. But none of these are things I feel comfortable doing for three hours or more at a time. My bigger question was about how to engage an audience into thoughtful participation into my world as an artist. Hesitating just a few moments after receiving an inquiry about my art offering, I wrote that I’ll be using Instagram for my art project. Thus, my Instagram Art Project at the artwalk was born.
Not familiar with Instagram? It’s an application currently available only for iDevices (iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, but I believe it will be made available for Android), and it turns your device into a mobile photo effects processor and sharing platform with popular Social Media sites like Tumblr, Facebook, Posterous, Flickr, and Twitter. It puts your pictures into a feed, and it shares pictures others took, so you can see what they are up to.
Even C-M loves Instagram. I’ve showed him the pictures. Doesn’t he look handsome? I noticed he’s also on the video. That cat just can’t stand not being in the limelight. *sigh* Next thing I know, he’s going to be asking for his cut. I better start monetizing, quick!
What if you’re not a very good photographer? No worries. I found Instagram’s effects are very forgiving on the photo. Mundane things suddenly pop with color and effects, turning them into pieces of art. I’m going to make the pictures I take with the artwalk project available to the public. We’re going to have a blast with the project itself, but Instagram is going to make it social.
Don’t forget: if you’re in Seattle and you want to attend the event, go on Facebook and search for “Artwalk”. Your RSVP is your ticket into our first artwalk.
