Artwalk and Fundraiser Oct 15
TweetHips for Hire in conjunction with the Old Rainier Brewery Artwalk will be hosting a fundraiser in the HFH studio as a contribution to the Autumn Artwalk October 15 from 6 – 9 pm, with a costume contest and after-party at Tin Can Studio at 10 pm. The theme is “haunted”, and the evening’s festivities include fire dancers, prizes, a chocolatier, and live music. Instead of just scaring people, we’re going to be showing some great art and artists in Seattle’s best indoor artwalk ever! It’s going to be boo-ty-ful [OK, I couldn't resist]!
Give Meshelly A Hand Fundraiser comes to the ORB artwalk
Be a part of helping Michelle George, an upper extremity amputee, DJ, wife, and mother receive a hand transplant through the Rochester Mayo Clinic. We’ll be live streaming the event on from 6-9 pm October 15 in conjunction with the artwalk. I’ll be iPad Dj’ing between dance and music performances, and showing you how to make her dream of getting a hand transplant come true. For more information, click on the GiveForward.com link.
Michelle George considers herself a very fortunate woman. She survived a serious MRSA infection after falling on a rusty nail. It was that fall that led to the amputation of her hand in order to save her life. Daily life includes having to do many things differently that the rest of us take for granted. The hardest part is dealing with phantom limb pain. It’s described as the itch you can’t scratch — multiplied 100 times over. If you have never seen an upper extremity amputation, Michelle has graciously supplied this photo of her arm:
Here’s a preview of the Hips For Hire lineup for October 15 (not in order):
Rebecca W. – belly dance
Ava – bellydance
Imei – bellydance, iPad DJing, MC
AttaMC – DJ
Hejira World Band in mini concert (raffling a house concert to a local winner).
IK Multimedia, a company that has made music creation applications for Apple products such as Amplitube, iRig, VocaLive, and the iRig Midi (see the video demo, below), has generously donated a few items to give as prizes for those participating in the online and in-person fundraiser for Michelle George. We’ll put all donors names on a list, assign each a number, and Michelle will be on the phone with us several times during the evening while we prepare to do a random-generated number drawing for who wins the prizes!
Check out yet one more reason why I love Love LOVE IK Multimedia:
You’ll be a part of helping Michelle get a new hand. While her life isn’t in danger, a hand transplant will put an end to her phantom limb pain while changing the way she lives. Your donations will help cover the associated costs of the hand transplantation process not covered by her medical insurance. You can see all the financial documents on a link on the GiveForward.com campaign link.
Our thanks to the folks at SeattleNightOut.com and the many Twitter and Facebook fans who have been sharing this campaign since Day One.

i got scratched by a rusty nail the other day… seeing that picture is making me think i may need to get another tetanus shot and any others. I’m sorry she got her hand taken but i dont want the same to happen to me. i need my hands im very artistic.
Angela, MRSA infections are serious and should be treated immediately. If the scratch broke the skin, you should have it looked at by a physician, or minimally triaged by an RN over the phone.
Best of luck to you.
Thanks for some other fantastic article. The place else may just anyone get that type of information in such a perfect means of writing? I’ve a presentation next week, and I am on the search for such information.
