Beauty Outside
Much of this art and artistic blog focuses on beauty and art that we find indoor in the things we create. What about the beauty outside
Whether you practice Yoga outdoors during the summer, walk along the beach and photograph found objects, film the trees and sky, or make wind chimes from glass, there is a lot to enjoy outdoors that might be only a few steps away from your office, or a quick drive out of the city.
This page is currently being built to add information about how professional artists and creative types can find and embed beauty directly into their every day practices as well as their artistic pursuits.
Street Nature Score
Do you know what your street nature score is? Using aerial images from the USDA for Seattle and San Francisco only (they will likely expand to other cities), Jeremy Faludi has designed a cool embed for your website that allows you to post your street nature score — that is, measures of nature that beautify an area — to help urban planners and developers add more sustainable and green beauty to your area.
Here’s the unfortunate score for my office, Seattle Direct Counseling, located in Pioneer Square:
Pretty sad, eh? What that means for me is that I’m going to welcome more green art installations that come to Occidental Square (located on the east side of the building), and I can appreciate trees being planted nearby. In my office, I’ll likely be adding plants, as I know that these create a more restful, stress-free environment that relaxes people and makes them feel at home.
Do you have ideas about how you can incorporate beauty into your practices and artistic pursuits that involve the outdoors? Are you a writer that would like to contribute to educating others about the options we have as urban dwellers who don’t want to experience the negative effects of being encased in concrete all day? Please write in your comments to info at hips for hire dot com.
