Susie Reed Knows Salsa

I met Susie Reed at a Halloween party I was hosting a few years back. Granted, the theme was a bit racy, but Reed got into character and was a great sport. No surprise now, Reed is a powerhouse on the Seattle salsa dancing scene. She doesn’t just get into costume: she breathes this dance the way some of us eat chocolate – naturally, and with a pleasurable ease. Reed steps in, and knows what to do.

Excerpts from her biography explain why Reed is the salsa instructor and performer to watch in Seattle. She is passionate about personal development, helping others and creating community. Her zeal for people can be seen through her pro-bono work in human services and volunteer effort in education. Reed also utilizes her qualitative research skills to empower members of hercommunity. In 2000, she received her Liberal Studies degree with an emphasis in society, ethics and human behavior from the University of Washington. She later obtained her MBA with an emphasis in marketing from City University.

Reed has worked in many industries, including consulting, architects & engineers and software. She has also gained experience in both non-profit and for-profit enterprises. From her education and work experience, Reed came to realize the importance of emotional intelligence (EQ). She learned that successful, sustainable companies have two things in common; authentic communication and respected leadership. Currently, Reed is a Health & Wellness Coach and she teaches advanced EQ and leadership, in hopes of bettering the world, one person at a time.

In her spare time, Reed enjoys many forms of dance; including salsa, samba, bachata, cha- cha-cha, and meringue. Bikram hot yoga, hiking, gardening and traveling are among her favorite pastimes as well. Let it be known that those words “in her spare time” shouldn’t fool you. While that can sound like a hobbyist, Reed treats her dancing with a high degree of professionalism I don’t often encounter with some professionals. While she is preparing for an upcoming dance competition with a new dance partner, Reed has announced she is joining the Hips For Hire registered artist program, and I am thrilled to help her and her dance style flourish in 2011.

As her events and dance instruction programs come up, you’ll see them on the events page, along with the events of other HFH associated artists. Have an artful event you wish to promote? Please contact me offline [email protected]
