New Bellydancer Wanted
TweetThe other day, I was thinking about my past ten years of bellydancing in the Seattle area and how much joy I’ve experienced by being a dancer. So I’m looking for a new bellydancer for an accelerated performance track. I want to pass on the joy of dancing to someone who will take it to good places, and someone to share gigs with while she is still learning. Will it be you?
Open Audition: July 11 – July 31, 2011 (by appointment)
Who: Females age 18- 45, in good to moderate health, interested in learning bellydance for performance. No dance experience needed, but it helps if you’ve had ballet, modern/jazz, or theatrical training.
Note: If you are interested in learning simply to dance around in your bedroom or to make videos, please deselect yourself. If you have had any recent or chronic knee or low back injury, I would also suggest another pathway to learning bellydance than an accelerated performance track.
What: to accompany me to gigs where I need a student dancer who has learned standard combinations and expression for a typical 20 minute Middle Eastern musical set, in recorded or live music. You will be labeled under the HipsForHire.com registry, sign a contract, and dance exclusively under the HipsForHire label for a period of no more than 12 months post training. All elements of your training will remain exclusive to my studio for the same contracted time.
Cost: you will purchase your own professional costume, or make arrangement for payment. Cost of 12 weeks of lessons will be negotiated (and reasonable), and in a case of financial duress, may be temporarily waived; any extra session time needed to make you performance- ready will require the private rate @ $30/hr. You may choose to pay your fee from any wages collected within the first gigs you receive. Lessons are not available for barter.
All gigs given to selected dancers will be marketed by Hips For Hire; any additional help provided by the dancer is welcome but not obligatory. Mentoring outside the practice time will be available for 12 weeks as part of the program. Additional mentoring can be made available through premium services.
Where: All auditions and performance lessons will be conducted at the Hips For Hire studio in the Old Rainier Brewery in Seattle. If you’d prefer to send in a show reel or a homemade video of you dancing in ANY style, you may do that by sending a link to where you have it archived digitally to [email protected]
Caveat: while I’ve taught male dancers in the past, the specific gigs I’ll be sharing will need female dancers. That does not mean I won’t audition a male dancer! Show me what you’ve got, and I might just come up with something just for you!
Come on and show me your inner bellydancer!
