Permission To Create
TweetDo you need permission to create? If you mean to ask if you need an authoritative body to give you permission to create art, the answer is a big HELL NO. But someone had a clever idea to unleash the creative ideas inside of you by giving you a universal artistic license.
Erin Shafkind wants to grant artistic license to anyone through an art project taking place on Occidental Square (Occidental Avenue South, between Main and Washington streets in Pioneer Square). Over the course of seven days and a variety of lunch and afternoon hours, participants will receive a laminated Universal Artistic License, reminding them to create, play, and make art. You’ll fill out a short form, have your picture taken, and voila! — you have a license to create.
ArtSparks brings knitted trees and artistic licenses to visitors of Occidental Square
Why Occidental Square? It’s the location of the first Thursday Artwalk, and the gathering point for outdoor music, dance, and art presentations that have been going on all summer. Notice the 206 phone booth? How about the knitted trees (Suzanne Tidwell)? There’s the Flock of Seagulls (LSq) that floats between the trees. Lifelines (Sarah Fereter and Jenny Kempson) are the rings you’ll see around the trunks of the trees on the square. The art you see there is the result of a partnership between Seattle Parks and Recreation, 4Culture, and the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs. ArtsSparks showcases examples of innovative arts, moving art to the places where people gather — parks, for example.

Just saw a brilliant documentary called Tabloid. The director could have made a documentary about a housewife washing dishes and it would still have been fascinating.
